It’s OK – Dancing With Other People Won’t Kill You!

So, you’re new to this whole dancing thing. It’s scary, you like your comfort zone, and let’s be honest: dancing with anyone other than your spouse and/or dance instructor seems ludicrous. But guess what? It’s going to be OK! Here are four reasons why dancing with someone new, be they student or stranger, won’t kill you.

  1. You already have a common hobby
    • You’re dancing, they’re dancing, everybody’s dancing! We all share an interest in dancing at some level. Whether you’re brand new or have been doing this for 30 years, bringing up your love of dance is a great conversation starter!
  2. Stepping out of your comfort zone
    • We get it: your bubble/square/circle/[insert shape] is awesome. You know what else is awesome? Stepping out of that [insert shape here] and experiencing something completely different and new. You know, like a new dance partner! Take it from me, the exhilaration and thrill of dancing with someone new will always be a great experience.
  3. They were once where you are right now
    • We all started from the beginning. Whether we started at age 5 or age 55, we all started with that first step. There’s never been a case in the world where a baby was born and was able to dance a complex routine. We all started where you are right now. It’s gonna be ok!
  4. You’re doing yourself a favor
    • Dancing with other people helps you learn another person’s lead / follow style. You’re learning what works for you, what works for other people, and how to become a more well-rounded dancer.

Take your dancing to the next level and dance with someone new – ask them why they started dancing and learn more about them!
